We all love traditional sports at the studio. All of us are big football fans and watch a lot of other sports. I played soccer most of my life. There are a long list of benefits to team sports. One downfall is that depending on the sport and position you may not get to participate all the time. Maybe not touch the ball much. You may rotate in and out for offense/defense and sit at times to let others get time.
The great thing about martial arts is everyone works the same techniques, gets the same opportunity to participate and advance skills. At times, we will teach patience and teamwork by learning to hold targets for partners, have others go while you wait for a short time but there are not long periods of “sitting the bench”. Sitting in left field waiting for the ball can teach focus and patience but encouraging your partner while they kick and punch does as well.
We will never discourage anyone from traditional sports but we are confident the continuous activity, skills development, character building and focus from martial arts will help them immensely in other sports. And we did not even get into the self defense aspect. Although, being a fast runner is always helpful!
